Comparitively few people died as a result of the Luftwaffe's Final Raid over the city of Belfast on 5th-6th May 1941. By then, many had fled to the countryside.
5th May 1941
On 4th-5th May 1941, the Luftwaffe returned en-masse over Belfast, attacking the city in what became known as the Fire Raid. A further 100-200 died as a result.
16th April 1941
The Easter Raid took place on 15th-16th April 1941. Luftwaffe bombs across the city of Belfast claimed the lives of 600-700 people over the course of the night.
8th April 1941
On 7th-8th April 1941, the Luftwaffe attacked the city of Belfast causing the deaths of a relatively low number of casualties mainly in the docks and shipyards.
7th June 1940
In June 1940, John Clarke MacDermott became Minister of Public Security in Northern Ireland. He set about making plans to evacuate schoolchildren from the city.
