George Heaney

Civilian George Heaney and other members of his immediate family died on 16th April 1941 while taking refuge in the Percy Street Public Air Raid Shelter.

Civilian George Heaney was a fatal casualty of the Belfast Blitz during the Second World War. He lived with his parents Joseph Andrew Heaney and Edith Heaney, and sisters Susan Heaney and Vera Heaney at 14 Percy Street, Belfast at the time of the Luftwaffe attack on the city.

George Heaney died on 16th April 1941 aged 3 years old at the Public Air Raid Shelter on Percy Street, Belfast. His parents Joseph Andrew Heaney and Edith Heaney, and sister Vera Heaney died as a result of the same incident. Sister Susan Heaney was rescued from the shelter.

George’s grave is in Carnmoney Cemetery, Carnmoney, Co. Antrim. A funeral service took place at 1530hrs on 19th April 1941 from City Morgue, Laganbank Road, Belfast.
