Civilian James Herbert Turpin was a fatal casualty of the Belfast Blitz during the Second World War. He lived at 251 Antrim Road, Belfast at the time of the Luftwaffe attack on the city.
He was the son of the late Samuel Peter Turpin and Elizabeth Sullivan Turpin of Stradbally, Co. Laois, Ireland. James Herbert Turpin died on 20th April 1941 aged 83 years old at Mater Infirmorum Hospital, Belfast. He sustained injuries on 16th April 1941 at 251 Antrim Road, Belfast. James’ grave is in Stradbally, Co. Laois, Ireland. A funeral service took place on 23rd April 1941.
The area in and around the Antrim Road in North Belfast sustained heavy damage during the series of Luftwaffe attacks on the city in April and May 1941.
