Rita Hutchinson died alongside several other family members at 261 York Street, Belfast on 16th April 1941 as the Luftwaffe attacked the north of the city.
Civilian Rita Hutchinson was a fatal casualty of the Belfast Blitz during the Second World War. She lived with her parents William Hutchinson and Sarah Hutchinson, sisters Lily Hutchinson, Sadie Hutchinson and May Hutchinson, and brother Martin Hutchinson at 261 York Street, Belfast at the time of the Luftwaffe attack on the city.
The Hutchinson family moved to Belfast from Ballycarry, Co. Antrim where William established a paint and wallpaper business at 261 York Street, Belfast. The family lived above the shop where they took shelter during the Easter Raid. The shop became engulfed in flames killing all those inside.
Rita Hutchinson died on 16th April 1941 aged 11 years old at 261 York Street, Belfast. Her grave is in Ballycarry New Cemetery, Bridgend Road, Ballycarry, Co. Antrim. A funeral service took place at 1400hrs on 20th April 1941 from Messrs. Melville and Co. Ltd., Townsend Street, Belfast.
